Ouachita Parish looks to a tax election to fund maintenance salaries for staff and facilities, special education classes, cerebral palsy school support, and classroom needs. Enrollment is rising from about 15 000 now toward nearly 20 000 by 1966 67 while staff grows from 370 in 1951 52 to 607 this year.

Daniel W. Brister age 75 retired carpenter died Saturday at his home 210 Montgomery Street West Monroe after five months illness. Funeral service 10 a m Monday at Trinity Baptist Church West Monroe with Rev James White and Rev Filer Seale officiating. Burial Twin City Memorial Gardens under Kilpatrick Funeral Home. Survivors include wife four daughters four sons three brothers two sisters and 17 grandchildren two great grandchildren.
Neville High School's 85 member Tiger Band won the first division rating at the State Band Festival in Baton Rouge, earning the top honor. Director Herbert Gathright noted the band was judged on concert playing sight reading and student conducting with senior John Harvey Nelson conducting. The three selections included Rakoczy March Oberon and Rienzi. The band traveled with neighboring educators for the overnight trip.
The Georgia court voided the county unit system for the Democratic primary and barred using the unit method in elections. Atty Gen Eugene Cook announced an interlocutory appeal to the U S Supreme Court. The ruling cites the 14th Amendment and details unit allocations by county and population under the Neill Act.
