The United States warns Syria Egypt Israel and others against drastic moves amid Jordan crisis. Unconfirmed reports say Russian volunteers may back forces seeking to topple King Hussein, a risk top officials doubt Kremlin would take.
Gov Earl K Long signed a proclamation for a recall election against Franklin Parish School Board member A J Ensminger ward 1 for June 25. Petitioners counted 298 signatures presented to Secretary of State Wade O Martin Jr by Dr Henry E Jones chairing the petition drive. The action followed calls to remove Wisner High School teacher Miss Glasgow over alleged disciplinary and teaching concerns.
Whetstone, district manager at Southern Bell, said the Twin Cities Monroe West Monroe and Sterlington phone numbers will switch to letter prefixes at 1 01 am Sunday limiting calls 12 17 am to 1 am. The change makes Monroe and West Monroe numbers FA 2 and Sterlington NO 2 with four digit numbers. Nehru to visit Denmark Finland Sweden in June before London Commonwealth conference June 26.
Five Atlantic Fleet amphibious ships with a Marine battalion will sail Monday to relieve vessels in the Mediterranean. The routine deployment follows past practice during the Suez crisis, when two Marine battalions operated in the region while relief forces arrived.

Thirty four delegates and 28 state officers attend the con vention ending today with memorial services and officer installation.
Jacob Albam, 64, a refugee and alleged Lithuanian member of a spy ring, pleads guilty. His co-defendants Jack Sable and Myra Sable had already pled guilty, facing maximum 10 years and $10,000 fines. Sentencing set for next Friday before U.S. Judge Richard H. Levet.

Bobby Hugh Turnage, 23, of West Monroe, escaped serious injury after his motorcycle hit a auto and launched 120 feet from Highway 80 West. He clung to the bike as it fell, was hospitalized at St. Francis, and charges will be filed. Driver Henry Whitman, 37, also from West Monroe, was involved. Police report Turnage was attempting to pass as Whitman drifted.

A federal jury deliberated 24 hours in Washington in 1955. sentencing set for May 15. SHREVEPORT Special A Second Circuit Court of Appeals decision upheld the parking ban on Cypress street in West Monroe and reversed a Bastrop case against the Morehouse parish Police Jury. The Fourth District Court ruling validating West Monroe's action was sustained. The ban has been in effect since May 1, 1955. the ordinance was adopted March 7, 1955.
