Peanut oil drive urged by Ouachita board
Ouachita parish farmers are urged to plant peanuts for oil this spring as part of the war effort. W. F. Ross says vegetable oil shortages justify the plan with support at about 130 dollars per ton, a rise from 82 last year, and potential state gains. The AAA committee may buy or arrange pickers if buyers or labor are scarce.

Major Robert H. Shirley Promoted at Selman Field
Captain Robert H. Shirley formerly of Orleans Indiana, finance officer at Selman Field, is promoted to major effective April 10. Commissioned in 1929 as an ROTC graduate from Indiana University, he began active duty in 1941 and moved to the Finance Department in November 1941. He served with the Fifth Service Command, Southeast Training Center, and stations at Tyndall Field and Maxwell Field. As a civilian he did advertising research and served as assistant cashier at an Orleans bank.
