Fire follows Missouri Pacific freight wreck near Monroe
After the wreck of Missouri Pacific freight train No. 168 at Rilla Mississippi five miles south of Monroe late Friday, fire spread through the ruins. Charred bones were found and a Tupelo man reported missing. A survivor said two men rode the end of an oil tank and one was trapped in flames before escaping with facial injuries. Louis Garth manager of the Independent Ice company at 2704 Gordon avenue was injured Friday when he fell under a heavily loaded truck. X rays Saturday showed no fractured bones but the flesh of his arm was badly lacerated and crushed under a weight of 1800 pounds. He left the office to take charge of a delivery truck when he slipped and fell under the truck. He was treated at a physician's office.
