He reports famine and cannibalism in China’s Szechuan, notes the new Zeppelin and air power developments, and warns England and Italy of escalating tensions and costly armaments.</s>
A 1 ton Puerto Rican airliner collided with a launch at Port of Spain harbour, killing three aboard the airliner and two launch passengers. Pianist Jose Iturbi escaped with 15 others and six crew. Iturbi’s secretary also survived. The Bra zilian clipper sister ship was en route to Buenos Aires when flood-damaged hulls trapped victims.
Nashville dispatch reports two ex-reformatory inmates, Howard Dunn aged 22 and William Farmer aged 19 from Knoxville, were convicted for the $14 robbery slaying of Jasper A. Milliken and sentenced to electrocution. District Attorney General J Carlton loser urged the jury to show no mercy. The case hinged on testimonies including claims of insanity and statements by Dunn and Farmer during the trial.
Detectives push the case of Nancy Evans Titterton murdered in her Beekman Place apartment. Autopsy cites strangulation by ligature after she was found in a bathtub. Wiley Straughn, a dress delivery man, testified he rang the lobby bell before checking for a response.

Two unidentified assailants halted streetcar operator Pete Heflet near Lee avenue end of the line Saturday night at 8 30. One robber with a .22 rifle threatened to shoot. the pair took about $9 in coins and bills, leaving Heflet unharmed on car 108 with no passengers aboard, in a site previously struck by bandits in past years.
General Plutarco Elias Calles, banished from Mexico, described the country as a “country swept with chaos” during a hurried stop in El Paso Texas on his return trip to exile in California. He said he is through with politics but wants to return, denouncing the man who sent him away.

Ouachita parish Red Cross plans to raise an extra 2500 dollars beyond the 1500 already allotted after floods in five southern states. About 1300 dollars had been subscribed to meet earlier requests, with immediate plans under way by the local finance committee.
Fort Miro chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution adopts resolutions asking Governor James A Noe to name Monroe Ouachita river bridge the Don Juan Filhiol bridge. The move follows the May 1 opening announcement for the P M Atkins bridge and seeks to memorialize the founder of Monroe.
Dallas police arrest Lloyd Blackie Doyle of St Louis a state indictee in the 1933 abduction of August Luer of Alton Illinois. Doyle was seized in a residential area while riding with a woman and jailed secretly. A man and a woman were later arrested in a northeast Dallas apartment. Frank Blake head of the Dallas bureau of investigation commented.
The Ouachita parish grand jury reports thirty seven true bills after spring term investigations. Twenty cases were no billed and four continued. They urge repainting the courthouse and jail interior and replacement of drainage covers. They urge intense policing to curb gambling including slot machines and marble tables. The most serious case is Nettie Lee Jones charged with manslaughter in the death of George Thomas. Solo mon Sheftall and R B Alexander are indicted for assault with intent to rob Henry Mickie, with W L Applin previously charged.
Private Sidney J. Colleagues of New Orleans, 21, was wounded at Barksdale field during synchronization of guns when a 30 caliber machine gun discharged. He stood about 60 yards in front of a pursuit plane and was hit in the back near the left shoulder, then legibly reached the post hospital in serious condition after a blood transfusion. The incident occurred Saturday morning. the gunner reportedly did not hear the command to clear.
Washington officials described a $799 million tax program as potentially changed in the Senate while House tax experts targeted the plan’s revenue leaks. Democrats on the Ways and Means subcommittee agreed to tax certain corporate dividends paid as stock rather than cash to block an escape avenue amid constitutional questions.
Announcement from A. P. Tugwell of the Louisiana highway commission states the new Ouachita river bridge will be opened May 1 with ceremonies under state parish and Twin City auspices. The bridge is named for Monroe hardware head Colonel P. M. Atkins, a Gov. Noe staff colonel and key supporter. Governor Noe and staff will lead the event in Monroe and West Monroe with Gay Noe cutting the ribbon.

Jacal Boy Scout troops will assist, and a mosquito control program will follow to curb malaria with city parish and industrial support.
Tupelo Mississippi is awarded a $1,000,000 Works Progress Administration grant to clear wrecked residential areas after a tornado left a 24 death toll and about 1,000 injured. The grant funds rebuilding under John McKee with Dr Wayne Alliston announcing the award. Families displaced by Willis Heights take shelter in boxcars tents or vacant stores as Red Cross aid continues.
Federal agents arrested N A Washburn of Shreveport and J S Overton of Monroe after a counterfeiting operation was broken up. A large batch of bogus five dollar bills and paper to print hundreds of thousands more were seized at a Monroe residence. Local police cooperated with the crackdown following counterfeit bills passed at Ruston on February 27.
