A private plane crashed into a mountainside near Van West Virginia killing two men including a pilot likely Ted Leader of Charleston and injuring a third man identified as Davis. Rescue crews recovered Davis who was conscious but unable to detail the crash as Leader had traveled to Knoxville to buy a new aircraft.
Colonel Charles A. Lindbergh sailed tonight aboard the liner Aquitania for the United States on a business trip. Surrounded by French detectives, he boarded ahead of other passengers and was kept under guard. Mrs. Lindbergh did not accompany him and his return marks his first visit to the U S since 1937.
Berlin signals through diplomacy and press that the British Polish pact is an unfriendly act to the Nazi Reich. Poland's cabinet is given Easter to decide. Hitler remains at Berchtesgaden while Ribbentrop briefs Polish Ambassador Lipski on potential consequences of final signature.
The Monroe fire department spon sored egg hunt will take place at Forsythe Park this afternoon led by Captain Harry Roberts with help from Twin Cities merchants who donate prizes. Steven E. Mefford, 47, a patient at the U S veterans facility, is charged with murder in the impulse slaying of 7 year old Clifton Winterstein. He reportedly told County Attorney Gaston Hewes he strangled the boy after meeting him in the woods on government grounds. Pathologists say death was from strangulation and a stab wound, though Mefford denies stabbing the boy. He was taken to the Hinds county jail for safekeeping.
The body of John Linder, a United States engineers mechanic, was recovered near the last sighting point after a 29 hour search by locals, the engineers rescue service, and the Tennessee Valley Authority. He had leapt from a flam ing launch during an exploration with two companions on the Tennessee River.
Easter will be observed across Twin Cities churches with sunrise services at 6 a.m. and morning sermons at 11 a.m. The First Presbyterian hosts Rev. The body of J C Rice Jr a 31 year old Demopolis salesman was found in his car in the Tombigbee river near Jackson Alabama. Coast guardsmen pulled the coupe from the swollen river after several attempts. Funeral arrangements set for Marion Alabama. Rice attended the University of Mississippi and was a Alabama graduate survived by parents a widow and two daughters. Alabama highway director cited failure of an electrically operated barrier as the cause of the accident.

Captain L W Tucker and 36 crew members escaped after the scrapiron laden Temple Bar struck rocks off the Washington coast. Tucker and First Mate R N Thompson flew to Seattle from the wreck scene. The ship was a total loss, with the crew spending four hours in lifeboats under a rainy mist.
