Strauss Playhouse Formal Opening Next Week in Monroe
The Strauss Playhouse of the Little Theatre of Monroe prepares a two year culmination with a public open house Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. and the musical Damn Yankees running April 13 through 20 with previews for life patrons April 12 and a matinee April 16. Grossly involved are Robert H. Evans as president Richard Clark executive director Dell Moore and John Pierpont headlining with Del Sawyer directing music from Northeast State College Jazz Ensemble. Fourth District Judge David I. Garrett Sr died Saturday at St Francis Hospital after four weeks illness. He was 67. Funeral at 3 p.m. today at First Methodist Church with Revs Pomeroy and Holliday officiating. Interment at Riverview Cemetery arranged by Peters Funeral Home Monroe. He served 28 years as Fourth District Court judge and 13 years as district attorney for Ouachita and Morehouse parishes.

Two Killed In Wreck Near Lilly
Two men died in a two car crash at 3 30 a m Saturday on U S Highway 167 about half a mile north of Lily in Union Parish. Carlton Jerry Jr 22 of Junction City Ark and Frank Hl Charles Negro about 26 of Lily died from head and internal injuries. Two Negro passengers in the Charles vehicle were injured one seriously. Sam W Wright 20 of Bernice and Leonard Young 23 of Bernice were treated in the Bernice clinic. Young suffered head and internal injuries and was moved to a Shreveport hospital. Charles swerved three feet into the lane of the northbound ferry vehicle causing the collision. Causes of the swerve could not be determined.

City Household Growth in Monroe Surges in Decade Report
The Census Bureau notes Monroe city households rose 31.4 percent to 15 301 over ten years, while population grew 35.4 percent to 52 219. In the Ouachita parish metro area the figure reached 28 034 households, with parish population at 101 663. Average residents per household were 3.45 citywide and 3.34 within city limits. Fur coats and umbrellas lead Easter parade fashion
April brought snow and cold rain across much of the nation with snow squalls in the Great Lakes and Appalachians. Phillipsburg Pennsylvania recorded 4 inches of snow while Concord New Hampshire and Boston Massachusetts logged .76 inches of rain and Portland Maine nearly an inch. Kennedy extends Florida vacation to Tuesday return
President Kennedy lengthened his Florida stay and will fly back to Washington Tuesday afternoon. He plans to confer with Prime Minister Macmillan in the capital Wednesday after an Eastern weekend at the Kennedy home. Secretary Rusk departed Palm Beach for Washington by MATS at 2 p.m. and aides said Jacqueline Kennedy and the children may join the President in Washington.

Soviet Union backs Laos cease-fire push and 14 nation talks
The Soviet Union agreed with the West on pursuing a cease-fire in Laos and proposed a 14 nation international conference including Communist China to decide Laos future, while leaving timing vague and urging Laotians to end hostilities.
