House OKs 9.9B compromise bill to fund farm programs
The House approved a 9.9 billion dollar compromise appropriations bill to finance farm, food stamp, school milk, consumer and environment protection programs, sending it to the Senate 348 to 24. Boyle Near Death After Apparent Suicide Attempt
W A Tony Boyle former head of the United Mine Workers remains near death after an apparent self harm attempt on the eve of a court appearance on murder conspiracy charges. He was rushed to George Washington University Hospital in a coma with critical condition. Doctors cited sodium amytal in his system and said survival chances were poor. The 71 year old faced state murder charges in the 1969 slayings of Joseph A Yablonski and his wife and daughter. the hearing was postponed.
