Tornadoes Hit In Peoria Area
Severe storms swept central and northeastern Illinois Indiana Iowa Missouri and Lower Michigan with 28 injured and about 1 million dollars in damage. The Peoria area saw the Norwood elementary school destroyed and Coca Cola Bottling plant damage while Bellevue Nursing Home was unroofed evacuations and two injuries occurred near Watseka Illinois. Damage included homes downed trees and power outages as storms moved east.

Monroe Firefighters battle dual blazes across county
A barn fire on the Ronald Martini farm east of Monroe destroyed the barn and hay, with over 1,000 bales lost. A nearby garage on 532 22nd Ave owned by Mrs John Schindler and son John Schindler burned, damaging the interior and destroying a car. Firefighters reported a third smoke-filled residence on the Peter Klassy Farm, with no serious damage. James Newman was overcome by smoke and admitted to St. Clare hospital. fire crews returned to Monroe by 4 am.

The Monroe police department moved into its new quarters when a power outage struck yesterday. Assistant Chief Dwight C. Coplien said the auxiliary generator activated within two seconds and ran for six minutes, allowing uninterrupted operation until power was restored.
