The question of meat rationing ends nears a showdown as OPA decisions hinge on livestock marketing and October point value charts. If continued beyond Oct 1 or moved to Nov 1, fats oils and meat could all be freed, while cheese becomes ration-free due to foreign requirements met from military stocks.
President Truman dismissed the idea that U S assistance to Great Britain aims to finance socialization. He noted Britain deserves its chosen government and that critics on Congress oppose the postwar loan plan.
