Secretary of Agriculture Benson argued in Seattle that farmers nationwide will back the Republican farm program in November despite Democratic criticism. He opposes government subsidies via efficiency and said the dairy sector needs higher consumption and better selling by producers, noting Washington dairy farmers reacted tepidly to the dairy program. He urged a market-driven approach with rising prices once consumption grows and poor cows are culled.
