Soo Tour Trains to Carry Cheese Days Signs to Monroe

Two Soo Tour Trains from Sault Ste Marie Michigan will run next week to Monroe Wisconsin for Cheese Days festival. Each 60 feet long with three cars, trains gain approval after talks with state officials. Signs measure four by eight feet and promote the journey. seven signs total. Buses will shuttle visitors from cars to festivities at a cost of 25 cents per person, with about 70 riders per train.

Benton Firemen Parade Rescheduled for Sunday

The Volunteer Firemen's parade and picnic in Benton are moved to Sunday after a rainout on Labor Day. The parade starts at 1 p.m. followed by a Benton versus Shullsburg baseball game. A ferris wheel and other rides will be available in the park all afternoon.

Eight Drum and Bugle Corps Enter Cheese Days Colorful Show

Eight drum and bugle corps will compete at the Cheese Days festival with a Saturday night drill and musical contest at 7 p.m. at T. R. Holyoke Field near Monroe High School. Admission is 1.00 for cheese days buyers, 1.50 for others. The Mercury Thunderbolts of Cedarburg, formed in 1953, bring a 10th anniversary of competition with past wins including the Wisconsin Legion Junior title and the 1963 64 Tournament of Music at Riverview Park NL.

Rev. Keith Clark of Monroe will be ordained priest on Thursday Sept 16 at St Marys Church Marathon Wisconsin with Aux Bishop Roman Atkielski officiating. A First Solemn Mass follows Sept 26 at 11 30 AM in St Victors Church. A public reception and benediction wrap the event.

Mary Poppins Comes Alive At Monroe High School Show

A capacity Monroe crowd enjoyed a blend of music fashion and talent on the Mary Poppins stage at Monroe High School Little Theater. The 8th Annual Charity Fashion Show directed by Mrs. William Spoerry and Mrs. John Callahan supports local civic projects for crippled and retarded children. The program featured young performers including Colleen Ferron Greg Wagner Merrilee Picket Pam Miller and more with narration by Mrs. Callahan and piano by Mrs. Gordee. The show repeats at 8 tonight with remaining tickets sold at the door.

Hanson Joins Monroe Police Department On Evening Shift

Arlin C. Hanson began work this week with the Monroe Police Department on the 4 PM to midnight shift. He previously served as Albany police chief and with Green County Sheriff’s department, and worked at Bruni Miller Inc. Hanson replaces Norman Hansen who resigned to take a Madison post, and the force is now at capacity.
