The Clarence R. Kernen family of Rt. 2 Monticello is Green County’s FHA family of the year, with 282 acres on farm plus 70 rented. Contour strips cover 135 acres and 1700 feet of grass waterways exist. five acres are wildlife refuge. Family includes Clarence and Phyllis, son Jeffrey at UW Madison, daughter Christine Kiesz, son Bob, son Bill, and Mary.

Pleasant View Nursing Home near Monroe received nearly 30000 from the wills of Dora Leuzinger of Juda and Truman Long of Monticello. The funds paid for ceilings wiring and new flooring in several rooms plus a new ventilation system. The activity room now serves as a social and chapel space with film showings. Firms LC Lanz Sheet Metal and Heating Bruni Miller Donovan Leuenberger Electric carried out the work. Leuzinger died January 15 1971 in Brodhead leaving 25753 98 to Pleasant View. Long died in 1968 leaving 4200 to the home.

The Nixon administration will lift the beef price ceiling at midnight Sunday two days ahead of schedule and extend new food price controls.
