Seven youths die when a car ran out of control on county trunk EE near Redgranite Wisconsin and overturned after hitting a tree. The accident pushed the state's Labor Day toll higher, with one additional death in Waukesha County and overall highway fatalities rising.
Biologists report chemical treatment of the Wisconsin River using chlorine has nearly eliminated bacteria that officials warned could threaten swimmers and boaters in the Dells area. The Wisconsin River Restoration Committee had earlier identified the bacterial threat, and researchers say the approach has cleaned the water.
Rep. William A. Steiger of Wisconsin accused the Nixon administration of not establishing proper guidelines for school lunch milk programs. He said the lack of clear standards forced some Wisconsin schools to raise milk prices, with increases described as up to threefold. He planned to take the matter to Agriculture Secretary Clifford M. Hardin.

Polls run 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. with a ballot naming Zimmerman on the GOP line and Zimmerman A on the Democratic line for Secretary of State.
