Alpine Festival and Tell Pageant Draw Thousands to New Glarus
Thousands of residents and visitors are expected for New Glarus Alpine Festival events this weekend including a German Wilhelm Tell pageant, its English version, two festival performances, a Maennerchor concert, and a street dance. The German cast, soldiers and choir boys rehearse as the schedule lists showtimes at 1:30 p.m. Sunday for the German version and 1:30 p.m. Monday for the English adaptation, with the festival starting at 8 p.m. tomorrow at the grade school gymnasium. The village park hosts the Maennerchor program Sunday night followed by a dance with music by Rudy Wieland, Paul Wieland and Larry Uffelmann, with the street closed between Ubert's D X station and the Zweifel building for the event.

Auxiliary Plans For Bloodmobile Visit In October

New Glarus Native Admiral Schindler Announces Retirement
Rear Admiral Walter G. Schindler, native of New Glarus, will retire Oct 1 after two years as commandant of the Eighth Naval District in New Orleans. He will be succeeded by Rear Admiral Frederick B. Warder. Schindler, born Dec 10, 1897, entered Annapolis in 1917 and earned the Navy Cross, Silver Star, and Legion of Merit for wartime service. Mrs. Unger Rites Set For Tomorrow In Wisconsin
Services for Mrs. Frank Unger 77 of 921 8th Avenue will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Shriner Neushwander funeral home with Rev. C. C. Warfel of Grace Lutheran officiating. Burial is in Greenwood Cemetery. Mrs. Unger born Ida Pagel in Germany on February 16 1882 came to the United States in 1883 settling in Fond du Lac. She married Frank Unger December 22 1904 and later farmed with him in Jordan Township until last March. Surviving are her husband three daughters a son two brothers a sister six grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers.
