City Budget to restore items after $50,000 refund
A state income tax refund of $50,000 will allow the city to restore at least five items cut to keep the $5.01 tax rate per $1,000. Amendments at the Nov 7 budget hearing would fund 7th avenue improvements, building and incinerator funds, a new parking lot near Twining Park, and storm sewers. The 1963 budget would total $590,294.78 with $427,026.33 revenue and $163,268.45 raised by taxes, unchanged from the original plan.

Juda Toll Rate Hearing Set for November 13

Area Reservists Called Due to Cuban Situation
Van A. Marsh of River Forest Illinois son of Mr and Mrs Van A Marsh was called to active duty Sunday in the Cuban Crisis. He serves in the 95th squadron of the 440th Troop Carrier wing a tactical unit with flying box cars for paratroopers and equipment. Engineers Begin Work on Runway at Monroe Airport
The Carl Crane and Co engineering firm of Madison started grading the main 2 700 foot runway at Monroe municipal airport. Mayor Orville R. Evans said Hoveland Brothers Co of McFarland, bidders on the project, will start work later this week. Crane firm hired by the State Aeronautics Commission for the federal state project. A 2 000 foot secondary runway was graded and seeded by the city and should be ready this winter. The airport lies east of Monroe near Highway.

Sommers Death Probe Reopened in Fond du Lac County
Fond du Lac County District Attorney R Donald Marcille announced the investigation into the death of Full Cream Cheese Co. president LeRoy Sommers would be reopened after an ex convict provided new information. Sommers was found dead May 22 in a partly burned car along a Fond du Lac County road. The coroner ruled carbon monoxide poisoning but his widow disputes suicide.
