Herbert T. Johnson Named to State Education Group

Herbert T. Johnson president of the Board of Education has been appointed as a member of the education committee for the Wisconsin State Chamber of Commerce. Johnson received notice of his appointment from Clinton F. Karstaedt, longtime associate with The Monroe Evening Times and former Beloit Daily News co publisher.

Godfrey Fires Three in Radio Television Show

A co producer orchestra leader and announcer were fired from Arthur Godfrey’s staff with no stated reasons. CBS announced twelve firings by Godfrey in just over six months as he refused to discuss motives. The trio Larry Puck Jerry Bresler and George Bryan reported their dismissals occurred while Godfrey toured Harrisburg Pennsylvania for a national horse show.

Jensen Reveals Retirement Plans for County Post

N. C. Jensen, county highway commissioner for seven years, will not seek re election at the County Board session beginning November 15. He notes a desire to retire and travel, with no official candidates yet for the post. Eugene Segner and Olin Flisram are uncertain or not interested. Edward Bidlingmaier was busy with New Glarus relocation work and unavailable for comment.

Albany youths injured as gun shell explodes

Two Albany brothers Howard Flood and William Flood Jr. received minor powder burns when a shell exploded in their shotgun during a hunting trip near Albany this morning. Albany village marshal Clement Lowl took the youths to Monroe for treatment. the men reportedly were trying to eject a jammed shell when it fired, a sawed segment narrowly missed William’s head.

Corn futures rose on the Board of Trade as traders anticipated imminent government action to bolster prices. Prices climbed about four cents at one point fueled by the report of possible government intervention.

Crash Kills Glen Hinds and Injures Two

Glen Hinds 61 of 1037 4th avenue died in a three car crash on Highway 26 north of Freeport. Two others were injured one critically. coroner plans an inquest after recovery. Zimmerman 22 of Orangeville and Richart 29 of Rock City were injured. Jaeger 61 of Freeport unhurt. Hinds was a Freeport janitor and WWI veteran with a family and military burial planned.

Egyptians Kidnap Two Israeli Police in Border Raid

An Egyptian military force penetrated the El Auja Nitzana demilitarized zone near the Sinai border and occupied an Israeli police post at Beerotayim. An Israeli police officer was killed, three were wounded, and two were kidnapped before the Egyptians withdrew.

Government holdings of butter cheese and dried milk have fallen sharply after the 90 to 75 percent parity cut on April 1 1954. Accountant Harrington Named to Lead Internal Revenue

Russell Chase Harrington, a Providence native and Ernst and Ernst partner, is expected to become internal revenue commissioner about December 1. Halloween Events In Monroe Planned For Monday Night

The city schedules a Halloween parade from Lincoln School to Monroe High and back with films and prizes at Lincoln gym.
