The Montgomery Ward store announced a morning overall sale to Times readers Tuesday evening. A large crowd formed before opening despite bad weather. The first 200 entrants received tickets for an overall purchase, and the event ended quickly.
Monroe's Victory Loan drive, led by War Loan City Chairman H. C. Roth, sets a local goal of 210,795 dollars, below the Seventh War Loan total of 442,422 dollars. The campaign will likely begin with a kickoff drive in November and run through December 8, urging individual sales by the usual workers.

Washington reports the Senate tax reduction bill of 5.788 billion dollars heads to a conference committee after a seven hour finance committee review that added 155 million in relief. The Senate would cut individuals by 2.644 billion, corporations by 2.934 billion, car and boat owners by 140 million, and keep 70 million in excise taxes. House proposals differ on 2.627 billion for individuals, 1.888 billion for corporations, 140 million for vehicle owners, and 695 million in excise taxes. Monticello woman sustained a broken collar bone and four broken ribs when a car driven by her husband collided with a machine driven by Mrs. Clifford Bob near Janesville on state highway 13.
