Baraboo reports Richard J. Olson 27 of Aurora Illinois bound over for circuit court after waiving preliminary hearing on first degree murder charges in the Sept. 10 death of Wanda Klingenmeier 53 owner’s wife and with attempted murder and armed robbery related to the LaRue tavern holdup. Olson captured at a road block.
Madison AP reports the Tarr Task Force Bill revising the state's shared tax formula was defeated 18 to 13. Democrats voted against the bill with McParland leading dissents. Republicans split with 17 voting for and 4 against. Roseleip voted no.
Life magazine alleges a Washington lobbyist received 5000 in cash to influence a tax evasion case while occupying House Speaker John W McCormack's chair in the speaker's private office. McCormack was away. The article also details other alleged fixes by the lobbyist and the speaker's suspended aide.
AP reports 84-15 assembly vote on a 3.2 million aid package for Marquette Medical School Inc. funded by a one dollar per barrel beer tax hike. Democrats opposing included Anderson, Jones, Nager Tobiasz. Republicans opposing included Belting, Keyon, McDougal, Merkel, Parkin, Schneeberg, Steinhilber, Tregoning, Van Hollen, Wilcox, York.
AMC officials and union leaders resumed bargaining after a hurried visit by superiors amid talk of rejecting a recent contract settlement. UAW members face a delay in voting on an economic deal that could end walkouts in three cities due to unsettled Milwaukee grievances.
Fred W. Huber of Jos. Huber Brewing Co in Monroe will speak at the Brewers Association of America convention in Ft Lauderdale on Oct 27 presenting The Jos Huber Story detailing growth from 15000 to 150000 barrels annually. The firm won third in the Metallic Label Contest to be recognized at the 28th annual event.
The US Command reports 6000 American aircraft losses since 1961 totaling about 6 billion dollars. Helicopters number 3114 and fixed wing 2886 with most losses from enemy fire or accidents across North and South Vietnam. Also notes about 3500 helicopters and 1000 planes operating in South Vietnam and the release of Jesse B. Harris Jr. after 42 months as a prisoner.
Rural opposition led by Sen Gordon Roseleip said the Tarr shared tax plan would divert too much money to Milwaukee and big cities. The measure failed 18 to 13 after weeks of debate with Gov Knowles calling for action.

Mrs W v McGowan of Janesville marks her 90th birthday with a three week trip to Ireland, joined by daughter Mrs Rose and son William McGowan. Born Oct 20 1879 in Ireland, she left 62 years ago. Asian diplomatic sources report a private understanding between President Nixon and South Vietnam President Thieu on withdrawing U S troops by end of 1970. If the enemy stays calm and Vietnamese training stays swift, 20 000 troops monthly might depart, with 60 000 already ordered home for a total of 300 000 by year end. The pace hinges on goodwill and combat conditions.
Nathan L. Klassy, city street superintendent, urged residents to rake leaves this weekend to the edge of curbsides but not into the gutter to avoid rain problems. The city street crew will begin collecting in the East School area on Monday with locations across the city announced throughout the week.
