Al Jolson, 64, famed Mammy singer and first US star to entertain troops in World War II and Korea, died suddenly in San Francisco after a two week return from Korea. He spoke with MacArthur in Tokyo and was planning a Bing Crosby radio appearance. Jolson leaves a widow and adopted son Asa Jr amid a storied career from 1899 Broadway to The Jazz Singer.
