A two vehicle head on crash at a southern Y intersection of CT J and CT C in Adams Township at 6 53 p m left four people hospitalized. Todd Ellingson 20 Blanchardville and James Flanagan Jr 32 Argyle were involved along with Flanagan's children Stephen 6 and Amy 5. Ellingson and Flanagan plus the children were treated at area hospitals with varying injuries as emergency crews from Argyle and Green County aided at the scene.

In Santa Cruz, a chartered American Boeing 707 plowed into a street crowd at a youth soccer practice killing more than 100. The four engine jet owned by Jet Power Inc. and operated by Rodel Enterprises for Lloyd Aero Boliviano had just departed Houston with oil field equipment.

Iowa City residents allowed leaf fires under open burn rule
Fire chief issued a blanket open burning permit for garden cleanup and leaves. The next day residents complained of smoke from a leaf fire. Firemen told the resident he could burn leaves as long as he did not create smoke.
