The Mayer cheese factory southwest of Browntown has rebuilt after its April 15 1945 fire and becomes one of the dairy region’s premier Swiss producers. Henry Tieman served 15 years and Dunia took over presidency after 10 years. the plant began in 1904 when local farmers formed a factory four miles from Browntown with Alex Rolli as cheese maker.

Joseph Hengel a 14 year old Aquinas high school student was amputated of his right arm at the shoulder after a shotgun discharged in a Swift creek rowboat. His companion William Ulnen 11 steered the boat to shore where fishermen summoned an ambulance and he was reported in good condition at St. Francis hospital.
