Wisconsin 32nd Division Inspects Fort Lewis Facilities
A seven member liaison team from Wisconsin's 32nd National Guard Division inspected Fort Lewis in Washington and found facilities excellent though WWII style barracks will need repairs. About 495 advance guards will arrive soon to occupy North Fort Lewis housing and prepare for active duty between October 20 and 29. The team, led by Lt Col Arthur J. Kessenich, said local personnel will assist and the plan is for Guardsmen to find housing first and then bring families if needed.

Arthur Mueller Dies After Two Car Crash
Arthur Mueller a former Monroe resident and Standard Oil salesman died in a Madison hospital after a two car crash on Highway 151 near Madison in the Town of Burke Dane County. The other driver Charles L Haefner 24 Route Marshall is hospitalized with facial lip cut and shoulder injury. Mueller is survived by wife Evelyn two sons Dexter and Karl and a Chicago sister. Funeral arrangements tentatively set for Thursday at Ripon where he was born.

Sewage Testing Set for Tuesday
The Monroe sewage plant will undergo tests next Tuesday to check if treatment is proper. City engineer Gerald Wickus said results will guide further improvements to the facilities. The schedule was issued at a Board of Public Works meeting at City Hall. A grit removal chamber is now installed and operating. Four Dead in U S Steel Plant Rampage by Laborer
A plant worker opened fire with a pistol during a reprimand for loafing, killing four men and wounding four others at the U S Steel Co sheet and tin mill. The shooter was shot by a plant guard and died. Archie Davis, 29, Gary, was a wounded witness. Joe Guydon, Donald Moran, Royal Butt, and Neal Wolfrath were victims. Louis Massa survived.

A 22 year old Waukesha man with a long police record will be charged with first degree murder for shooting a friend whose body was found in Waukesha County woods. He claims the shooting was accidental and led authorities to the weapon.
