Sparkling new curriculum ideas in clothing and foods will be offered to Green County Homemakers at Monroe Vocational and Adult School this year. Courses like Beginning Clothing and Tailoring will be taught by four area Home Economics staff, with dates in fall and winter. Alpine Camera Club Cheese Days Contest Opens Here

The Alpine Camera Club of Monroe sponsors a Cheese Days Picture Contest with three classes colored slides color prints and black and white prints. Entries due Oct 11 at First National Bank Community Room Monroe open to amateurs and both members non members. Awards three per class first $3 second $2 third $1 judged on story clarity and composition.

Cheese Days chairmen and wives met at Marco's Supper Club to view a 16 mm parade film by Harold Snively. They praised the festival as Wisconsin’s largest community event and announced a 1969 planning meeting to form a new directorate and committees with a financial report to come.

Zion Country Club Building Under Way in South Wayne

The Zion Country Club, a non profit project to aid social and educational needs in South Wayne, has 58 members and aims for 100 within a five mile radius of the park site east of Zion school. The first project is a 20 by 50 shelter house with a fireplace and stage, plus a gravel parking area, with a future swimming pool under consideration. Proceeds from a Turner Hall dance on Oct 14 will fund the shelter, and 4H members will maintain grounds.

Area Vocational School enrolls 43 Monroe students this fall

Forty three students from Monroe and vicinity join Area Vocational Technical and Adult Education District No 4 at Madison Vocational School this fall. The district hosts about 2100 full time post high school students in vocational technical and college programs. The district covers Columbia and Dane counties plus several neighboring districts. Funeral services for Ernest V. Erickson 57 of Whitefish Bay who died October 2 at University Hospital Madison follow complications of emphysema. Service at Bay Shore Lutheran Church Thursday 2 p.m. Entombment Wisconsin Memorial Park. Memorials to Bay Shore Lutheran Church. Erickson native of Wiota and holder of a Platteville State College bachelor and UW master of philosophy. He taught at Monroe High 1938 1942 led Monroe Teachers Assoc and Green County Safety. WWII War Dept ordinance division. Active in education and guidance groups including multiple Wisconsin and Milwaukee associations and Phi Delta Kappa. Since 1946 a Milwaukee Vocational Technical counselor.
