Hawthornes Acquire Restaurant Building

Mr and Mrs Alden J Hawthorne proprietors of the Waffle Shop yesterday purchased the building on the east side of the square occupied by the restaurant from Mr and Mrs Paul W Neubauer. The Hawthornes had purchased the Waffle Shop business from the Neubauers in July 1952. The building had been bought by the Neubauers from the estate of Roy Jaberg who died in October 1950.

Gilbert Hoesly Taken by Death

Gilbert Peter Hoesly 75 prominent New Glarus resident and Green County Board member died at St. Clare hospital after several weeks illness. He served 30 years on the village board including 12 years as mayor and sat on the county board representing New Glarus since 1946. He was active in business and Masonic and church groups and helped with the Tell pageant. Survivors include his wife two daughters four grandchildren and a great grandchild. Funeral Friday at 2 p.m. at Swiss United Church of Christ with burial in church cemetery. Masonic rites.
