Under sheriff Albert J. Specht traced a long cold case to a 17 year old death in Babcock. A doctor died and a woman later bought and cleared a house finding bones and skulls that were dumped in the woods. a hunter found one skull and reported a second missing.
President Truman announced that the agriculture department will permit distillers and brewers to use more grain and lift some flour distribution limits. Export grain goals rise as grain supplies improve, with transportation shortages cited. changes to grain control take effect December 1 and aim to sustain food aid abroad.
Dr. H. F. Schroeder reported that Paul F. Neverman secretary of the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association remains in a critical condition with double pneumonia at Marinette General Hospital after several weeks of illness. Improvement had been seen recently.
The Milwaukee district OPA office will close tonight after years of operation. Beginning Monday only the area rent and state sugar offices will operate from Milwaukee with rent ceilings for Milwaukee Waukesha and Sheboygan counties and price control for the whole state shifting to the remaining offices.
An unidentified bandit robbed the Edgar state bank at 8:50 this morning, taking between 3500 and 4000 dollars from cash and a drawer. He fled south in an international truck with a platform body, aided by an accomplice outside the bank. Clerks Lucy Shortner Esther Schmit and Donna Uckert assisted by lying on the floor during the heist. The Marathon county sheriff’s office was notified and a general alarm issued. The bandit is described as a 24 year old man in a khaki jacket.
Six University of Wisconsin students were injured when their car driven by Martin Tuchow of Chicago collided with a car operated by Fred C. Coplien of Monroe route 2 on Highway 14 north of Janesville. Authorities said the crash happened as Tuchow tried to pass Coplien’s left turning vehicle. Both cars were badly damaged.
Batavia and Britain fulfilled today their pledge to withdraw all occupation forces from Indonesia before November 30 as fighting was reported between Dutch forces and Indonesian republican troops. Washington ICC directs railroads to keep furlough rates for armed forces until January 30, 1947. Most eastern railroads planned to end the special rate December 1.
Cheddar values fell three cents on the Wisconsin cheese exchange today after three cars of cheddar sold at 43 cents. Unfilled bids included two cars at 43 cents and two cars at 45 cents with single daisies at 44 1 2 cents.

LaVerne E. Hall, 20, Westby Wisconsin, and Maurine V. Steyer, 17, Exeter Nebraska, were named winners in the national 4-H achievement contest sponsored by the national 4-H club congress. They received trophies from the president and a $200 college scholarship from the national committee on boys and girls club work.

Officers to be elected include Louis R Wolleson president Roscoe Smith vice president and William A Brown treasurer. Directors listed are Arlie Frost Theodore Bayrhoffer Roscoe Smith Conrad Stauffacher and R H Schoonover with various superintendents.
Thomas Dowling 23 of Orange endured a holiday mishap after waking in the Pennsyl vania railroad station heating plant and climbing a 182 foot chimney. He crawled to the top and found escape impossible until an attendant opened a door at the base. Dowling was treated at the city hospital.
John L. Lewis pleaded not guilty as Judge Goldsborough resumes contempt of court action. Lewis waived an advisory jury, leaving the district judge sole arbiter. The case centers on disobeying a court order not to cancel his soft coal contract with the government. Navy Capt. Norman H. ?????
