Three Thanksgiving Fires Claimed Twelve Lives
A mother, father, and ten children died in three fires on Thanksgiving Day. In Oklahoma City a private home for handicapped children saw five youths perish in a nine room house. seventeen others were rescued. Little Rock reported a mother, father, and four children killed in a frame house, another child survived with burns. Milford Conn saw a three year old girl die in a blaze started by a faulty space heater at the DuMont home. The DuMonts had earlier lost four children in a Claremont New Hampshire fire linked to a space heater.

Funeral Sunday For Elmer Cook and Penny McCulley
Joint services for Elmer R. Cook 43 of 703 28th Avenue and his step-daughter Penelope J. McCulley 20 of Rockford Illinois will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at First Methodist Church Monroe. The two were killed Wednesday night in a two car crash at Center and Rock Grove north of Durand Illinois. Linda Leonard 17 of Durand was injured. Penny McCulley was a Rockford Life Insurance employee and Monroe native engaged to Navy serviceman Gerald Davis. Mrs Leonard survived with non life threatening injuries. Others in the Cook family include Cecile McCulley Cook and Curtis P McCulley. Funeral services will be officiated by Rev Glen H Ridnour with Dr Yale Gerol participating. Public viewing after 4 p.m. tomorrow and church transfer at 12:30 p.m. Sunday.

Four Injured In Area Crash In Green County
Four area residents were injured yesterday morning in a three-incident holiday crash pattern across Green County. The most serious collision occurred at Highway 39 and 78 near York church when a Scadden car hit a semi driven by Arthur Hahn of Verona, injuring William Weaver, Mary Lou Scadden, and her two year old son, with Weaver and Mrs Weaver sustaining cuts and minor bruises. A third incident saw Gerrold Staffon lose control near Monroe, crashing through the Alston Auto Parts fence on Highway 11 after saying he fell asleep at the wheel. Minor damage to two other cars near Monroe produced no injuries.

Four Die in State Traffic for Holiday Toll 738
Four died during Wisconsin Thanksgiving weekend raising the yearly traffic toll to 738, with three students from Kenosha and Neenah killed in two separate crashes. James Gehrt, 33, of Neenah, died from injuries after a three car crash in Menasha.
