Dark skies and chilly breezes kept temperatures in the 40s all day and night, with a forecast to fall to near 30 tonight. Temperatures are expected to rise back into the 40s tomorrow. Snow was not seen yesterday and no snow is forecast tonight or tomorrow.

Council Adopts Fire Truck Plan

City Council approved bidding for a 75 foot aerial fire truck at an estimated 30 000 to 33 000 dollars with county support of 7 500 guaranteeing protection at the county home. The plan is the second step in modernization to meet Fire Insurance Rating Bureau standards. Delivery is expected in about 18 months after contract approval. The county will maintain current fire rates for the county farm and guarantee service by 25 men and three trucks in extreme emergencies.

Monroe Faces Higher County Levy in 1953 Budget

County figures show Green County total levy down to 7.57 while Monroe’s share rises to 205 412.51 in county levy plus 5 610.88 state tax. Monroe’s city share climbs to 26.683 percent of the total, prompting a needed $15,649.53 reduction in the city budget to keep a 22 per 1 000 rate. Mayor Dinwiddie set a special council session for next week to finalize the levy and rate.

Four of 16 Green County Soil Conservation Service cooperators received extra honors at Monroe Junior Chamber of Commerce ceremonies in Turner hall. Ida Booth 75 Dies at Home in Monroe

Mrs Ida Booth longtime Monroe resident died at home yesterday afternoon at 812 17th avenue from natural causes coronial ruling. County Board Revises Salaries and Approvals

The County Board revised several salary decisions, rejected a plan for a county superintendent assistant, and tabled a speech correctionist request. They approved raises for highway shop staff, set nurse clerk pay at 180, and appointed Merlin Meythaler to audit duties with state costs estimated. State aid for the county home projects was approved at 30,571.90 with related contractor payments.

County Budget Adopted With 795 935.75 Levy For 1953

The Green County Board approved a 1953 budget totaling 1 060 622.86 with a tax levy of 7.57 per 1 000 on a 105 139 270 equalized valuation. Surplus reductions trimmed the levy to 795 935.75 while anticipated non tax income rose to 257 687.11.
