County Board Adopts Record Budget for 1961
The County Board approved a record 1961 budget of 2,009,347.90 and a tax levy of 1,289,876.78, near the proposed figure and higher than last year. The board raised County Judge Marshall L. Lester M. Dearth 46 of Blanchardville died yesterday at Madison General Hospital. He was born July 10, 1914 in Jo Daviess County Illinois and married Germaine McKillip December 29 1937. Survived by his wife four daughters eight sons mother four brothers and four sisters. Services set for 9:30 a.m. tomorrow at Saether funeral home and 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception church Blanchardville with burial in Calvary cemetery.

Belleville residents began clearing debris from Tuesday night’s severe weather. Meteorologist Joe Rigney confirmed a tornado formed but did not reach the ground in Belleville, with a separate funnel hitting ground 16 miles southeast at the Elmer Allen farm near Evansville and the Fred Fetting farm near Union on Highway 14. A pine tree was torn near Fetting’s yard and the Glacier restaurant sign letter C was embedded in a barn wall with the roof ripped off.
