Barns Destroyed In Winslow Fire
Winslow reports a blaze at the Frank Schramm farm four miles southeast, destroying two small barns and a granary. Fire chief Frank Krebs and about a dozen firefighters fought flames that raged until 4:30 a.m. despite winds. The house and other buildings were saved, cattle were spared, and neighbors assisted with water. Orville Beeck tenants the farm, and Alan Schultz supplied water with his 1500 gallon tanker.

Six Hunters Rescued as Nine Remain Stranded in Utah
Six Idaho hunters trapped by a snow storm were found yesterday near Idaho Falls while nine others were still stranded in a Forest Service ranger station east of Ogden in Utah. A plane dropped bed rolls and food and a snowmobile was expected to bring them out today. Three Idaho hunters were found early yesterday. Later a pair of cowhands located the remaining nine in an abandoned ranchhouse about 22 miles southeast of Idaho Falls.

Fire Chief seeks budget for new city fire alarm siren
Monroe fire chief Joseph Benkert told City Council that a siren purchase was not in the proposed 1958 budget and urged funds or phased payments. He noted the current siren is antiquated as the city’s population and alarm load have grown, and requested action within the year for a 1956 57 installation. Three stop signs were ordered for intersections at 15th and 16th streets, 14th Street and 16th Avenue, and 6th Street and 16th Avenue.

Pvt. Lawrence E. Morgan 20 of Brodhead area is missing and presumed drowned after a rubber assault raft overturned during amphibious maneuvers off California near Camp Pendleton. Two other Marines drowned earlier in the same operation. Morgan enlisted in 1954 and trained in San Diego.
