Monroe Students Tour Ford Co Plant and Wyandotte

The Monroe Student Exchange group begins a week of tours in Wyandotte Michigan with a Ford plant visit and other industrial firms. They will travel to Kellogg Cereal in Battle Creek and lunch in South Bend before Chicago with an overnight at the Sherman House.

Lafayette Plans Budget Hearing for 1965 Tax Levy

Lafayette County board held elections and set a public budget hearing for Tuesday November 17. Walter Rielly was reelected highway commissioner. new members join the highway and school committees and nursing home trustee. Salary increases were requested for the Storms Manor staff and highway workers with staged wage hikes proposed. the 1965 tax levy is set at 908596, down 7340.

Elementary Schools Open House For Education Week

Monroe four elementary schools schedule open house tomorrow with East North 6 30 to 8 30 pm South Lincoln 3 30 to 6 30 pm Browntown 7 to 8 30 pm and a Mother’s Club led event at stiff school. Sixth graders from Lincoln and special ed students joined a recent junior high event as 400 parents attended Monday night classes, says Walter Babula.

Memorial at Arlington recalls Kennedy family moment

A year after John F. Kennedy accompanied by John Jr at Arlington for a Veterans Day wreath ceremony, the scene of the boy's playful antics amid security and officials is remembered as a warm, fatherly moment. Kennedy had urged Veterans Day to honor service and world peace. A second Arlington ceremony was planned.

Otto J. Braun 83 Passes Away in St. Clare Hospital

Otto J. Braun 83 of 2107 6th Street died at 11 05 last night in St. Clare hospital after a cerebral hemorrhage. Born July 17 1881 in Jefferson Township he lived in Sylvester Township before moving to Monroe in 1933. He was a retired custodian and member of Mt Olive Lutheran church. He is survived by three sisters and his wife Bertha Mary Dora Bahe Braun who died Jan 24 1953. Services at 2 p m Friday at Stuessy funeral home with Rev R F Bittorf officiating burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call after noon tomorrow.

London this morning reports the new Labour government will lift pensions and unemployment benefits substantially and raise income taxes to finance the increases. The package signals a broad expansion of social welfare funded by higher tax revenue.

State seeks $100,000 judgment against Gripentrog

The Wisconsin State Department of Agriculture has filed suit in court for a $100,000 judgment against Herbert Gripentrog Jr., head of the Owen Dairy Co. Inc., now defunct. His wife Susan is named in the complaint as well.

Knowles Calls Governor Win Near Miracle in Wisconsin

Republican Gov Elect Warren Knowles outlined an action program to spur jobs and growth in Wisconsin. He announced a tax collection revision, budget hearings to begin next week, and a four year term proposal for top officials. A task force will prepare economic plans while Lucey attends hearings. He noted state agency requests could reach 895 million but offered no final figures.

Linda Schiesser Wins State 4H Achievement in Home Furnishings

Linda Schiesser, 20, New Glarus, is among 35 Wisconsin 4H members named state winners after judging at the University of Wisconsin. Elisabeth Rule of Dodgeville and Finny Bomegaars of Evansville are at large winners, now candidates for national honors to be named at the National 4-H Club Congress in Chicago. Linda, a Stevens Point State University student majoring in home economics, plans to teach or become a county agent after graduation.

The Dane County Red Cross offers 250 word Christmas talking letters recorded on 78 rpm discs for families with servicemen overseas. Messages are confidential and provided with recording, postage, and mailing folders at no charge. Sessions occur at the Madison chapter building on Nov 28 29 and 30 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Louisville teachers strike persists with silent pickets

About 150 to 250 teachers stayed away from Louisville junior and senior high classes as a walkout continued amid a court order against picketing. Students studied in halls while some strikers picketed. officials noted no firm strike figure and salaries were the central issue.

County Faces 151000 Boost In Tax Levies

The Green County Board studied the proposed 1965 budget at a public hearing and adjourned without action. The budget totals 2408217.60 with a levy of 1327356 and revenues up 102828 from last year, boosted by hospital expansion and added highway spending. A 10 cent hourly pay raise for 64 highway workers was approved. a three week vacation for long-serving workers was rejected.

Great Great Grandchild Adds to Marty Family

Mrs. Carl Marty Sr. of 2290 16th Street, soon to be 103 on Christmas, celebrates the birth of a daughter to Thomas Robert Lalk of St. Louis Missouri.
