Segner Wins Reelection as Green County Highway Commissioner

H Eugene Segner was reelected highway commissioner by a 20 to 12 vote. Ted Newman was defeated after a salary adjustment plan set Segner at 385 dollars monthly and Newman at 370, with housing allowances. The county hospital purchasing authority was approved 28 to 4, and a 35 thousand dollar budget addition for hospital care was authorized. The board added 5 thousand for a new social worker and granted per diem raises to nonboard county committee members. Segner pledged to serve Green County and urged residents to bring issues to him. The supervisors adjourned to 10 a.m. tomorrow to review the hospital, jail site, and relocation projects.

A J Ostrander 92 Dies in Green County Hospital

Archibald James Ostrander aged 92 died at a Green County hospital after a month’s stay. Born April 17 1866 in Jefferson Township he was married to Lillie Benage. Canadian Embezzler Held After Ottawa Bank Loot Recovered

Boone Lester Johnston, 25, of Ottawa, Canada, wanted for embezzling $260,000, was arrested at a Denver nightclub Monday night. Police said about $200,000 of the loot was recovered. Johnston, an Imperial Bank of Canada employee, reportedly told detectives he took the money to see what it felt like to have it.
