Jaycees Back Renewal Plan Vote In Monroe Referendum

Monroe Jaycees voted nearly unanimously to support the tornado Urban Renewal project in Monroe’s December 5 referendum. City officials outlined benefits while opposing alderman Wesley L. Dodge defended the plan as socialist, urging voters to rely on conscience at the polls.

City Budget Hearing Slated with $227,087 Levy Increase

The Monroe city budget draft shows a total of $884,332 with $42,445 carried over from 1967 leaving $841,887. After subtracting estimated income of $614,790 the tax levy is $227,087, about $7,601 above 1967. A public hearing is set for November 21 and publication of summary figures appears in tomorrow's Times.
