Elementary and Junior High in Monroe hold parent teacher conferences Friday and Saturday November 9 and 10. Elementary pupils miss classes. Junior High begins Thursday evening with no Friday school there. Senior High teachers attend in service on Friday. Report cards issued at conferences. about 1 429 elementary conferences scheduled.

An editor notes Monroe Public Schools provide equal opportunity for slow learners through a Special Education program serving 49 students from Primary to Senior High. The curriculum adapts to each child, with integration into regular classes and job training under the State Rehabilitation Program, aided by community employers.
During a blood mobile visit at Platteville State University 36 pints were donated by the Philadelphian Fraternal Society at Platteville to aid Tom Keen of Juda Route 1. Keen, 16, is a St. Clare Hospital patient recovering from injuries sustained in a corn picking accident on Oct 6.
The Wisconsin Board of Regents will decide on December 1 whether to adopt strict guidelines governing student demonstrations across the nine state universities.
Jim Huntoon reports shrubs for wildlife planting are available at the Green County Agricultural Building. The Wisconsin Conservation Division funds propagation at Boscobel Nursery with shrubs usable along fences and streams but not for ornamental or city use. Free to eligible youth groups and certain public or supervised projects. pay rates are ten dollars per thousand for multiflora rose and twenty dollars for other shrubs. Species include mixed crab, dogwood, wild grape, ninebark, multiflora rose, and Siberian peabush.
Across the globe deadly events unfolded over the weekend with typhoon Emma in the Philippines causing ships to sink and hundreds missing, England suffering a fatal express derailment and a Spanish airliner crash, Hong Kong surviving a Convair 880 incident with many aboard safe, and New Guinea Italy and other locations reporting multiple deaths and extensive damage.
One person died and three were injured in a single vehicle crash on Argue Road near New Glarus. Linda Mae Pederson, 16, died at the scene. Christine Joy Pederson, 14, and Mary L. Grear, 16, were hospitalized in critical condition. Ronald A. Johnson, 21, was in good condition. The car rolled after hitting a rock bank, ejecting three occupants. Funeral arrangements set for Adams Lutheran Church in Monticello/Argyle area.
Graysville resident Mrs. Kate Frink Watson celebrates her 100th birthday. Daughter Mrs. V E Thomas recalls a Wallace visit and a moment when Watson ordered a magazine stopped, saying Mama advised him not to run and that he would get killed.
Monroe Police have taken ten local youths into custody charging acts of vandalism tied to egg throwing. Three are 15 years old and the rest 17. Chief Dwight C. Coplien said many incidents involved teachers homes or cars. All ten are referred to Juvenile Court.
Leonard J. Haney, Moore Business Farms comptroller and Monroe toastmasters member, won a humorous speech contest over three Madison clubs and Sun Prairie at the Sun Prairie American Legion Hall. His talk The Wonderful World of Kids drew on true stories from children. The district contest is Jan 20 in Madison with the state event in March.

The ATS 3 for applications technology satellite lifted from Cape Kennedy Sunday night to test systems for better space born benefits including communications weather prediction and navigation experiments.
Dr. William F. Graves, a 44 year old physician from South Pasadena, testifies at a court hearing on California's death penalty after two years treating prisoners on San Quentin's death row. He calls executions nauseating and sickening and cruel and unusual punishment.
The Joint Finance Committee deadlocked 7 7 on a plan to let municipalities levy sales taxes from one half to one percent to bolster local education funding. Assembly Speaker Harold Froehlich sponsored the bill as a Milwaukee crisis response with teachers threatening strikes unless new revenue is found. the measure now goes to the House without recommendation.
Rep Melvin Laird of Wisconsin urged unity among dairy farmers at the Pure Milk Products Co operative convention. He promoted a two price stabilization plan with a national board to guarantee parity for domestic milk and to price surplus milk to avoid market distortion.
