Monroe and Green County voters are poised for record turnout as the presidential campaign of Joseph McCarthy stirs Wisconsin. Voter questions include Rosenberry plan reapportionment and local races for First District congressman and county offices. Registration neared 4,359 by noon Saturday, with free nonpartisan rides offered to polling places. Dick Sharer dies after sudden heart attack on Monroe square
Lorenzo J. Dick Sharer of 1731 14th Street died around 8 Saturday night from a heart attack while in the east side of Monroe's public square. Born March 19, 1892 in Jordan Township, he farmed near Juda before retiring to Monroe. He served in Co H First Wisconsin Infantry and was active in St Victor's parish, Holy Name Society, and Knights of Columbus. He leaves a widow Jessie, two sons James and Andrew, his father Lawrence, three sisters and six grandchildren. Funeral tomorrow at 9 and 9:30 at St Victor's with burial in Calvary cemetery. Rosary at 8:30 tonight.

County wide schools including rural state and graded districts will close Thursday and Friday for the annual state teachers convention in Milwaukee.
