Philip Sellinger public relations director for the Wisconsin Republican party was found guilty on five counts of state income tax evasion in a bench ruling by County Judge William Buenzli. He faced sentencing in about three weeks after a no contest plea and pre sentence investigation.

Beloit Referendum Sets City Manager Plan Vote

Voters cast ballots today in a referendum to replace the city manager council form with the mayor alderman system. This is the third such vote in 26 years. the last 1948 vote kept the existing system by a 152 vote margin.

John Walter to Speak at Monticello All Awards Night

Monroe County juvenile court worker John Walter will be the guest speaker at the All Awards Night at 8 p.m. tomorrow in the Monticello high school gym. Winning students in music sports and forensics will be presented their awards. The event is open to the public.

The first new Welcome to Monroe sign was installed near Blackbourn's service station at Highway 1181, featuring a Swiss Miss greeting and a cheese image. Chamber secretary Vernon Schillinger designed the message and plans call for 24 canton signs and pole attachments citywide. Mossman, longtime chamber leader and Wisconsin Power and Light district manager, will become Dane County District manager for the company on June 1. The board also authorized funding for Monroe High School band travel to New Glarus for the Daily Day parade on June 29.

Gary Teachers Strike Over Recognition Faces Brief Sessions

The 1,200 member Gary teachers union walked out affecting 42 public schools while 300 teachers crossed lines to teach. Picket lines appeared at most schools. no incidents were reported. The strike followed a dispute with the five member school board over union recognition as bargaining agent. The term ends June 7. A separate notice reports the death of 100 year old Josphine Fox, longtime Grant County resident.

Memorial Day Parade to Honor Veterans and Flag Tribute

The 9 a.m. Thursday parade starts at the Armory led by marshals Edward J. Doyle and P. J. Planes to Spot Holiday Speeders Over Wisconsin Roads

Wisconsin plans heightened Memorial Day weekend traffic enforcement with National Guard planes monitoring speeds via painted silhouettes on highways. Former Town Clerk Convicted in Thefts

KENOSHA Charles P Cruthers former Town Clerk of Pleasant was convicted Monday of embezzling 7536 dollars from the town in 1959 and 1960. He pleaded no contest in front of Circuit Judge M Eugene Baker. A pre sentence investigation was ordered and bond of 10000 dollars continued. Cruthers served 26 years as clerk before retiring.

Election of class officers ended with seniors led by William Schuetze as president and Jerry Marty as vice president. Linda Nyhus of the York 4-H Club won the senior individual with 233 points and Deininger of Richland 4-H Club topped the junior division also with 233. Monroe FFA led the senior team, Hiawatha 4-H captured the junior title, as 139 youths judged four Holstein and Brown Swiss classes at New Glarus and Monticello.
