Cheddar Cheese Price Unchanged in Wisconsin Market

Madison reports cheddar cheese prices steady with demand fair to good. American cheese production in the week ending May 19 rose 1 percent to an estimated 29.3 million pounds in Wisconsin and the nation. Swiss Grade A block supplies were limited while grades B and C varied from adequate to ample.

Monroe seniors receive over five thousand in local scholarships

Local grants funded more than $5,000 in scholarships for 10 Monroe High School seniors based on academic achievement. Leo Sebald notes broad community support while additional awards from Key Club Girls Service Club GAA Student Council 40 and 8 and March of Dimes will push the total beyond $7,000.

Gemini 9 rendezvous postponed to next Wednesday

The Cape Kennedy launch postponed the Gemini 9 rendezvous and space walk flight by one day to allow the Atlas target rock et to be prepared. The delay shifts the flight to the following Wednesday as the launch team gains extra time.

Memorial Day Parade Honors War Dead in Monroe

Memorial Day activities in Monroe begin with grave decoration at Greenwood Cemetery at 7 15 a m. Parade steps off at 9 00 a m from Lincoln School with band and veterans groups, featuring Gettysburg Address and main address by Rev Calvin P Fischer. Children marching receive American flags. wreaths honor veterans as Brownie and Cub Scouts join later.

Camp Area Near Yellowstone Lake Expected To Fill Fast

Campers are moving into Yellowstone Lake area early for the Memorial holiday and officials expect it to be full by tomorrow morning. Game manager Clarence Benkert notes high demand with reservations coming from as far as Chicago, and explains state campsites cannot be reserved. A nearby Zanders Lake at Browntown is off limits, while Browntown Wildlife Area gains a new well ready for holiday visitors. Overhead light poles are being installed and two new toilet facilities will begin construction soon with shared funding.

Alice in Dairyland bids farewell at Monroe Kiwanis luncheon

Kathy Kenas, Wisconsin’s current Alice in Dairyland, spoke at the Monroe Kiwanis Club luncheon at Swiss Wheel restaurant. She described the program as Wisconsin’s saleslady with a crown, noted dairy promotion impact, and announced a new bill enabling wider travel for future Alices. A regional contest in Brodhead precedes Eau Claire state finals.
