Multiple Weekend Crashes Injure Seven in Illinois and Wisconsin

Mrs. Corson of Monroe suffered a mild concussion and facial cuts when a collision four miles north of Warren Illinois sent her and her daughter to St. Clare hospital. In Darlington three more people, including a 53 year old woman, were seriously injured, while an eight year old Decatur boy and two other Monroe cases drew minor injuries. deputies note the Darlington crash occurred about 5 p.m. Saturday on Highway 23 Lafayette County. Additional Monroe police reports cite minor damage in separate incidents on 17th Avenue and at the city square.

Convent Cash Stolen in Prairie du Chien

Thieves broke into St. Gabriel's Convent Sunday while sisters attended mass and carried off more than $500 in cash. Police investigation underway.

Baccalaureate Launches Monroe Graduation Week With Service

Monroe high school kicked off a week of graduation activities with baccalaureate services in the school auditorium. Rev. Bernard Bartel gave the invocation and scripture, Rev. Clarence Warfel offered the prayer, and the Mixed Chorus performed. Rev. Olm delivered the sermon “Five Smooth Stones” guiding 113 graduates. The service closed with “We Would Be Building” as devotion, and the orchestra provided processional and recessional music. A class picnic is set for Vilas Park tomorrow, with commencement Wednesday at 8 p.m. Awards Day follows Wednesday afternoon. Rev. Elmer S. Hjortland will deliver the commencement address. No classes Thursday for Memorial Day. Report cards go home Friday.

Graduation Exercises for Green County Seniors

Oshkosh State College registrar L O Tetzlaff will give the commencement address at Green County Teachers College graduating seniors in the high school auditorium at 8 tomorrow night. Rev. Glen H Ridnour will deliver the invocation and benediction, Otto W Lund will present diplomas, J R Schesser will award them, and the program includes chorus and student songs.

Three States Hit By Deluge Floods

Flash floods swept southwest Texas and Oklahoma as up to 8 inches of rain and rising rivers forced about 6 100 people to flee Fort Worth and Dallas suburbs. Moffett Oklahoma residents were evacuated to Ft. Smith Arkansas as the Arkansas River overflowed its banks. Lake Texoma near Denison Dam neared spillway level with downstream evacuations expected as water flowed over the spillway for the first time in 13 years.

Kuehn Opposes Leaving McCarthy Seat Vacant

MILWAUKEE Wisconsin GOP chairman Philip G Kuehn said he would vigorously oppose leaving the late Senator McCarthy's seat vacant until 1959 He supports a law change allowing gubernatorial appointment but would back a special election if the Legislature blocks the change He dismissed Gov Thomson seeking the seat in 1958 as a motive for vacancy.

John Blaska Dies at 72 Co-op Leader and Politician

John M. Blaska longtime Dane County Board member for 22 years and former Democratic assemblyman elected in 1948 1950 died today at age 72 He also served as president of the Dairyland Co operative of Juneau reflecting his leadership in agricultural circles.

Memorial Day Parade Planned Here Thursday

Monroe plans a Memorial Day parade to honor war dead with a ceremony at Greenwood cemetery and grave decorations by veterans groups. Parade marshal T. J. Burgy Jr. says assembly at 8:30 a.m. at the National Guard Armory with the parade heading to Greenwood for wreaths and Gettysburg Address.

Rockford Girl 14 Killed In Hit and Run Crash

Sharon Jean Dearth 14 of Rockford was struck while walking with a classmate near the southeast city limits. Police say her body was dragged 183 feet. Clarence T. Vermeis 50 formerly of Rockford was arrested on reckless homicide hours after the crash.

A bouncing tornado hit Bloomington and Fennimore in Grant County Saturday causing shattered barns a roofless house and downed trees with $12000 in damage. Two FFA Youths Drown as Rowboat Sinks in Wisconsin Lake

Two Rosendale high school students James Fredericks and Myron Tates died when their FFA outing rowboat with four students swamped on Silver Lake near Wautoma Wisconsin.
