Dr Longhorn to Speak at Monroe High 94th Commencement

Dr Milton Longhorn vice president for academic affairs and dean of the faculty at Wisconsin State University Platteville will give the 94th Monroe High School commencement address at 8 p.m. June 1 in the gym. The program opens with the wind ensemble and processional, followed by invocation and awards, with diplomas presented by board president R O Kittlesen. The class motto is Every man is the architect of his own future and the colors are green and gold.

Youth leaders urged to balance dissent and law at Monroe banquet

Dr. Bjarne Ullsvik cautioned 21 Monroe High School scholars in the 1967 class honored at the First National Bank of Monroe scholastic banquet. He urged responsible dissent and preservation of liberty, while noting nationwide campus unrest and urging respect for due process and order.

Monroe Board Moves to Modernize Vocational Education

The Monroe Board of Education began updating vocational programs and discussed a broader expansion. They set June 12 for the budget session and approved 9,000 for shop equipment at the high school and 1,200 for junior high industrial arts gear.

Durand youth killed in Vietnam before 19th birthday

Pfc. Butler 18 was killed in Vietnam near Quang Tri after entering service in 1966. He was a Durand High School 1966 graduate and football track star. Survived by parents and two brothers, arrangements set in Durand. Johnson backs broad election reform for campaign disclosures.

Orville R Evans Receives Legion of Honor in Albany Ceremony

Orville R. Evans Sr. of Monroe, former city mayor, was conferred the DeMolay Legion of Honor degree at a ceremony in the Albany Masonic hall after the Mother Degree. Stewart Chapter members assisted with the conferral and a Madison team led by Ernest Jamieson participated. Mr. Evans attended with his wife and Mrs Nathalee Shultz. Evans and Shultz joined Albany Chapter of the Eastern Star at a prior meeting.

Monroe Bands Plan Busy May 30 Memorial Day Program

Memorial Day 1967 in Monroe features multiple school bands. The Cadet Band under Vance Nelson will march at 9 am in the parade, followed by the Symphonic Band directed by Allan F. Barnard performing a Memorial Day Concert at Greenwood Cemetery starting at 9 and 9 30 am. The Concert Band will give a 11 45 am concert at the Green County Fairgrounds. The Symphonic program includes Tenth Regiment March Come Thou Almighty King March Religioso and Stars and Stripes Forever among others with Nearer My God To Thee as wreaths are placed. Taps will close the formal program.

Rep William A Steiger Republican Wisconsin proposes raising the personal exemption in federal income tax returns from 600 to 1000 dollars. The bill would increase the exemption by 400 dollars in increments of 100 a year and cites the 1947 baseline as overdue for change.

The Cheese Days Inc finance committee reported a week long fundraising drive is underway to raise 10 000 dollars for the September 16 and 17 festival.
