Sheriff Wounded in Hip in Fatal Home Standoff
Stephenson County Sheriff Al Vin Stine was wounded in the left hip during a gun battle with Merle Winters, who barricaded himself in the James Hager home after threatening Mrs. Hager. Winters, a 57 year old grandfather, died from neck and abdominal wounds after the confrontation.
