Christ Roth 87 Dies in Monroe
Christ Roth, 87, died at 6:30 p.m. yesterday at St. Clare Hospital after admission May 5 as a medical patient. Born December 22, 1869 in Canton Bern, Switzerland, he came to the United States in 1896 and settled in Monroe. He married Helen Loertscher in 1899 and farmed in Monroe Township before moving to Monroe in 1929. He leaves four sons, 13 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Immanuel Evangelical Church, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. The body is at Shriner-Neushwander funeral home until 10 a.m. tomorrow.

Chicago Industrialist Drowns Near Hayward
Herman Lake, 51, a Chicago industrialist and president of Insulated Wire Co., drowned when a fishing boat capsized on Moose Lake in Sawyer County near Hayward. Companion Richard Binkan was rescued after clinging to the overturned craft for over three hours.

Dynamite Blast Kills Darlington Farmer Elmer Howard
Elmer Howard 64, semi retired farmer, was killed by a dynamite blast on his farm two miles north of Darlington. Coroner Richard Barth said a defective fuse caused the blast as Howard stood nearby, hurled 142 feet. His sons Stanley and Calvin witnessed the tragedy. Mrs. Howard was under a doctor's care. Services planned Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Baptist church. burial in Union Grove.
