Monroe Recreation Park hosts the annual spring court of honor with four Monroe troops and at least three out of town outfits. A family group basket dinner begins at 6 30 p m and the court of honor by the campfire starts at 8 p m. Mrs. Mary Dunwiddie Kemp of Tacoma Washington died recently. She was daughter of the late Judge and Mrs. Sarah Dunwiddie and former Monroe resident who taught in Minneapolis then served twenty years as a Baptist missionary in China before returning to the United States. She married Herbert Kemp in Swatow China in 1894. he died in 1914. Survived by a son and three grandchildren. Brooks J. Dunwiddie is a nephew.

Ancient Document Found Signed by President Polk
A May 1 1845 land grant to Mordecai Kelly of Wisconsin Territory surfaced as final judgement entered in a county court estate case. His granddaughter Mrs Jessie Murphy Freeport visited Monroe to finalize ownership, with the four mile west of Monroe Inn site on highway 11 needing upkeep. The 101 year family history shows the land never sold or mortgaged. the log inn once served Racine Dubuque travelers and now sits empty with a 70 year old barn nearby. Mrs Murphy and her daughter hope to keep the farm in the family amid a lineage tracing to 1835 Ohio born founder and a 1835 settlement near Spring Square. Richard Foss, Mrs Foss's RAF pilot son, is missing since 1943 over the Pacific.
