Conservation tillage saves time and fuel in Wisconsin farming

Gerald R. Krause of the Soil Conservation Service promotes conservation or minimum tillage as a way to save time and fuel. Field trials across Wisconsin report 5 to 15 dollars per acre saved, with residue left on the surface reducing soil erosion and aiding quicker disking. The approach suits rainy springs, requires minimal ground prep, and pairs with good fertility and weed control. Monroe SCS office offers guidance before starting.
