The Wisconsin Cheese Association asked the Legislature for a 35000 state grant to help finance a 24000 pound cheddar to be displayed at the 1963 World Fair in New York. Monroe man Alfred Barth dies in head-on crash near city
A 71-year-old Monroe resident, Alfred Barth Sr., died at St. Clare hospital after a head-on collision 1 mile north of Monroe on Highway 69. Three others from Joseph Kuhne Lumber were injured. two remained hospitalized. Coroner ruled accidental death. no inquest. Eight other workers were uninjured. Barth, born in Switzerland in 1892, had lived in the area since immigration with his family.
