Olsen Receives Wisconsin School Administrators Foundation Fellowship

Lee Olsen, superintendent of Monroe schools, named recipient of the WASDA 73-74 fellowship. The Green Bay native will use the $2,000 scholarship plus a university stipend during the 1973-74 year while pursuing a UW Madison doctorate. Olsen resigns effective June and has a long career in New Mexico and Monroe.

Wisconsin DNR reports boating deaths rise with fewer accidents

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources reported 54 boating fatalities last year, up from 41, despite a 22 percent drop in reported boating accidents from 211 to 164.

Jobless rate holds at five percent as earnings rise

The unemployment rate stayed at five per cent last month, with about 4.4 million people unemployed and 83.9 million employed on a seasonally adjusted basis. Gains in average weekly earnings and the length of the work week indicate underlying economic expansion following sharp prior increases.

Bike registration in Monroe will be held tomorrow at the Monroe Police Station from 8 a.m. to noon. Residents who have not yet registered are urged to do so Saturday. Weekday registration is not offered.

Legionnaires to Attend Third District Spring Conference Banquet

About 150 Legionnaires are expected at the American Legion Third District Spring Conference weekend program. Events run Saturday morning through Sunday with registration, reports, a banquet at Idle Hour Mansion featuring Keith Kreul as speaker, and a parade at 2 p.m. Monday? Noted participants include Bud Mautz as master of ceremonies, W. E. Deininger as parade marshal, and John Marty as post commander.

Schools Announce May 10 and June 2 Make-Up Sessions

To make up snow days this year the district will hold a full day on May 10 and a half day on June 2. On June 2 pupils attend morning only while teachers use the afternoon for a work session. Kindergarten classes will not be in session June 2.

Five Hurt In Mishap Near Brooklyn Wisconsin

Richard Wyttenbach of New Glarus escaped serious injury when his car collided with a Volkswagen carrying five people on Wis 92 two miles west of Brooklyn. Three women and two young girls were taken to Methodist Hospital Madison with unknown conditions. others assisted included Dane County Sheriff's Dept and Belleville and Evansville officials. The Green County Sheriff's Dept investigated the crash.
