Wisconsin Senate battles colored oleo repeal amid long filibuster

Wisconsin Senate faced a lengthy filibuster by Sen. Gordon Roseleip as it debated repealing the 1895 ban on colored oleo. The bill, approved 67-30 in the Assembly, would legalize colored oleo with a possible July 1 start and fund a dairy research building at the University of Wisconsin.

Schuetze Wins Honor at Monroe Key Club Anniversary

The Monroe Key Club marked its 10th anniversary with an Upper Michigan convention in Milwaukee where John Schuetze won first in an oratorical contest. The club earned a first place service award for a clothing drive aiding Vietnamese orphans.

Death of John Klessinger at 65 in Monroe

John Klessinger, 65, of Route 3 Monroe died at 3 35 this morning at St Clare Hospital after a year of illness. Born Feb 7 1902 in Passau Bavaria he came to America in 1920 settling in South Dakota later moving to Monroe. He married Clara Gertsch Sept 19 1936. Clara died Feb 17 1964. He married Rosa Neuenschwander Jan 29 1966. He worked at Blumer Brewery Milwaukee breweries and Hubers Brewery Monroe before retirement in 1966. Survivors include his wife two children four stepchildren a half brother in Belgium a half sister and many grandchildren. Preceded by his father first wife and one step grandchild Lori Ann Chambers. He was a member of St.

Four Monroe Kindergartens Register 208 Children

A total of 208 children were registered last week across four Monroe kindergartens. East houses 42 students, Lincoln 69, North and South 47 combined. Rural families heavily favor Lincoln, while handbook guidance and health materials were distributed. Parents will be informed in summer which school their child will attend.

Walter Renk Named To Board of Regents

Walter F. Renk, 64, of Sun Prairie, was appointed to the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents by Gov. Warren P. Knowles. He is the brother of Wilbur F. Renk, former president of the regent board.

Monroe Woman Named for College Year in India

Barbara Sutter, formerly Barbara Kundert of Monroe, a Stevens Point University sophomore, is one of 26 U S students chosen for the College Year in India program. She will study at Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi under director W Robert Holmes with fellow participants, living in Indian hostels and pursuing language and cultural studies.

May Musicale Opens Monroe High Bands Tonight

The Monroe High School Concert Band and Symphonic Band present May Musicale at 8 p.m. in the junior high auditorium. Allan F. Barnard leads the Symphonic Band, with Vance Nelson opening.
