They will meet at the courthouse to resolve issues and plan an urban two week and rural four week canvass. Navy Hunts Mystery Sub Sighted Off Northern California
A U S Navy destroyer Colahan prowled the Pacific pursuing a mystery submarine sighted five miles off northern California. Planes searched as pilots reported a submarines periscope 40 miles at sea off Cape Mendocino. Early sighting near Trinidad harbor described a surfaced sub with running lights by a fisherman and his two sons.

A midnight blaze ripped through a staff dormitory at Manhattan State Hospital for the Mentally Ill on Ward's Island in the East River. Sixty nine nurses fled the two story brick building in nightgowns. one woman was injured during the fire.
