Eisenhower Death Declared Day of Mourning
Monroe Postmaster R. J. Myers announced President Nixon declared Monday March 31 a day of mourning for Dwight D. Eisenhower. Post offices will be closed to window service and carrier delivery, though mail will be delivered to boxes and Special Delivery service will operate. Regular holiday collection will be maintained.

Fire destroys farm home in Green County
A mother Betty Bond and her 11 children were left homeless when their Lawrence Schneider farm residence between Juda and Brodhead burned. Firefighters from Juda and Brodhead fought the blaze for about 1 1/2 hours starting at 7 10 a.m. The family belongings were lost and no housing is yet arranged. The origin is undetermined. The Bond children attend Brodhead schools. the Canopy damage at Twining Park plane is noted separately.

Anti Pollution Plan Would Aid Wisconsin Communities
A 474 project survey targets six years of pollution control in Wisconsin with eight local sites. The ORAP-200 plan proposes 200 million in bonds for sewage plants parks and outdoor recreation with 144 million for water projects and 56 million for parks and wildlife. Local shares start at 45 percent while federal and state aid would cover 75 to 80 percent over ten years. April 1 ballot action planned for bond issuance.

Exchange Trip Ends but New Friendships Live in Memories
Thirty seniors return from a study trip to Washington DC and Wilmington Delaware. They toured the White House visited Arlington National Cemetery to see Robert and John F Kennedy’s graves and witnessed the changing of the guard. They stayed in hotels, toured Alexis I DuPont School with a modular schedule and free meals, and noted friendly classmates and school spirit.
