Albany Plans Referendum For Fire Station And Community Building

Albany voters will decide April 1 on a scheme to build a fire station and community building at the old Paidar site with village offices. Plans show the location and shell construction with interior finish to come later financed over 40 years, costing about 75 000 dollars, raising village taxes by around 24 percent. The Albany Lions Club endorsed the project, and financing details include one third aid from Albany Township and fund drives for finishing.

Deininger Wins FFA Sectional Advance to State Contest

John Deininger, son of Mr and Mrs Lloyd Deininger of Monroe Route 2, won first place in the Section 5 FFA speaking contest at Waunakee. Larry Buetzer of Browntown took second in creed recitation. Deininger advances to the state speaking contest in June at Green Lake, Wis.

Officers Are Named Life Lines Take Council Spotlight

The Green County Homemakers Spring Council met yesterday at Immanuel United Methodist Church Monroe adopting the Life Lines theme and electing officers. Mrs Alois Mayer Monroe was elected vice president and Mrs Erwin Rufener Argyle secretary. Hold over officers include Mrs Walter Douglas Brodhead president and Mrs John Hillbrand Monroe treasurer. The election was held in morning sessions with slate presented by Mrs Ralph Siedschlag and Mrs Leland Kubly. Tellers were Mrs Eugene Stuckey Juda and Mrs Jake Senn Browntown.

New Slide Series For Tornado Education Debuts

The city Civil Defense Auxiliary Police presented a 20 minute slide show on tornado awareness at the Community Center. Ervin Goecks heads the unit and said the slides will be available to organizations via requests to Goecks or CD director Theodore Weiss. Siren tests are scheduled for next Wednesday at noon to ready Monroe for the spring season. Bruno Traven, 89, author of The Treasure of Sierra Madre, died in Mexico City of a heart attack. he kept his origin secret and distrusted publicity.
