Green County Agricultural Chest members meet Monday at 8 p.m. in the Agriculture Building to set the June Dairy Breakfast site. Wisconsin cheddar cheese market held steady with prices unchanged as demand ran fair to good. Longhorn supplies were short while other styles ranged from short to adequate. American cheese production for the week ending March 17 rose 3 percent nationwide and in Wisconsin to 22.2 million pounds, 2 percent below year ago but 12 percent above the five year average. Swiss cheese remained fully steady with demand at seasonal levels and limited offerings.

Alpinists Reach Mt Eiger Summit After 30 Day Ascent
Five climbers from Germany Britain and Scotland completed the first direct vertical ascent of Mt Eiger north wall despite 40 below temperatures and 16 hours without contact. Joerg Lehne and Guenther Strobel led the team to the 13 036 foot peak as Layton Kor Douglas Haston and Roland Vutteler later joined. Harlin died during earlier stages, and Kor evacuated, with Haston and Kor criticizing rope shortages.
